Dinorwic Marina
Marinas Gwynedd - UK
A warm welcome to Port Dinorwic Marina, this historic port at the mouth of the Arfon Heulyn, which has provided a safe haven for ships and fishing vessels for centuries (even the Romans are thought to have visited!).
The dock was constructed in the 19th century to export slate from the Dinorwic Slate Quarries, via a narrow gauge railway. The marina provides sheltered berthing, particularly in the lock basin. For this reason, the basin is much favoured as a winter storage site. The lock basin was recently dredged in June 1996 and the outer pontoon basin in the winter of 97.Cruising is varied from Port Dinorwic, with the possibilities being to head South to Caernarfon or North up the Straits towards Beaumaris or Conway.
Facilities
The marina is made up of two district areas, the lock basin and the pontoon basin. Lock out will commence 3 hours before High Water till 3 hours after High Water depending on tidal levels. The marina features toilets, showers, telephone & fax facilities, refuse disposal, a laundry service and fuel. Electricity and water is also available on contacting a member of staff.
Location
Dinorwic Marina is situated in Y Felinheli, north Wales with the dock opening up onto the Menai Straight, which separates the mainland from Anglesey. The Marina is easily accessable by both road and rail, with the nearest train station, Llanfairpwll Train Station , just 2 miles away.
